I never knew that creating and publishing a website for the whole world to view would be so easy to do. By viewing the 'Weebly how to make a website' on my ipad it gave me the freedom to construct on the computer as I was viewing the information.
PLUSES:
- Quick to view when constructed (not as slow as the WIKI)
- Allows for individual creativity
- Easy to construct allowing students to easily make their own for displaying achievement's at school and outside of school.
- Free no payment required
- Means of communicating to other teachers, parents, students, wider community and globally without a bill!
- Allows for contact with viewers of the webiste without divulging personal information.
- Like the blog and wiki allows for the input of pictures/video/links to other websites and podcasts to view.
- Allows the teacher to place content she would like learners to view without students needing to search on the WWW.
- Does not allow viewers to edit information or add to it.
- Must be aware when refering to others work to referernce their work.
- Copyright laws and ethics also need to be considered if students are constructing their own websites.
- Does not encourage collaborative discussion on work presented on the website.
- Does need to be maintained and updated by creator so information is not out of date.
INTERESTING:
- Websites can be used for advertising Eg school fetes to the wider community. They enable the publisher to place more information or content than say traditional means of advertising (poster/flyer)
- teacher could use it as a tool in class (displayed on the interactive whiteboard) for refering to key websites for information linked to current learnings.
