Interactive Powerpoint Presentation

I opened a word document to create a storyboard powerpoint presentation with hyperlinks to link certain pages together.  I now understand the hyperlinks may be made to pages and then you can add return buttons to new pages and not just the home page.  This makes it easy to navigate when presenting.  I used this to display some basic facts regarding Australia's Economy (very generalised), however further brief presentations could be produced to detail each of the main headings given in the first presentation.

Powerpoint can link audio, movie, pictures and text so does not have to be boring.  It can be used to create charts for brainstorming, put data into graphical form, it can add students own voice recordings, pictures.  May be used in class for multiple choice questions, linking the question to the page where the answer may be contained!  Kiosk presentations for information nights, to display work.  The best presentations hold only 10 slides and are no longer than 20minutes and have a font size of 30.

Here is a link to my very short interactive presentation

Week 5 Basic power point presentation

The Windows Vista version of Power point was very different to the older version I have been used to.  It took me some time to get used to the inserting of photos and charts however I was surprised to learn I could embed a youtube video into the presentation.  I was able to do this by going to freefileconvert.com I then copied the URL for the video into the converter and converted it to a pdf file.  It took sometime to work out however works well.  This is the link to the presentation on my wiki.

Engagement Activity 7 - Digital Video

Hoping this fist home made video will work!  I used Movie Maker 2.6 and used an old video clip then added slides and an audio file recorded on my computer.  The whole process was fairly straightforward, I just have to remember where all the files are saved on the computer!

My First Audio Podcast

I am hoping that the below link will take you to my first podcast:

This could be used in a wiki or class website to introduce a subject, homework or group assignment.  It may be used to record ideas from students on a topic and you have a record for all to refer to.

Engagement task 5: Using Web-based Podcasting

Below is a Link to a food podcast.  It is a radio interview where other listeners call in to ask questions regarding preparing good basic food.  This podcast may be used to help learners plan the practical component of a food lesson.  As it discusses how we can tell if a steak is cooked correctly, do we need to soak peas before cooking etc.

It may also be useful for the teacher to use some of the topics covered to create classroom discussion to generate deep thinking and problem solving Eg how do we know if we are eating 'fake meat' or 'real meat'.

The below podcast exemplifies how creative thinking can result in real life success.  It interviews 2 young business creators and discusses how they created a small successful business using a basic website and ideas from previous travel experiences.  It could be linked to aspects of  business studies as an opening  to a class discussion on how to run a small business and aspects of running a small business:

  • It refers to a 'business model',
  • why do we make changes to a business model
  • what are profits and cashflow
  • use of the internet to create a business
  • the business websites are referenced so we are able to gain direct access to the creators of the business for further questioning.

This task did take some time to listen to some podcasts of interviews but there may be some very valuable information and new ideas that can be encorporated into learning.  The following website lists podcasts in subject area.

Week 3 Creating A Website

I used http://www.weebly.com/ to create my website which is free.
I never knew that creating and publishing a website for the whole world to view would be so easy to do.  By viewing the 'Weebly how to make a website' on my ipad it gave me the freedom to construct on the computer as I was viewing the information.
